Emily Renee Smith is a designer focused on creating beautiful, functional leather goods that connect people to the joy of their bodies.
Marrying form and function in design began at a young age for Emily Renee.
As a child she sewed garments for herself under the tutelage of relatives. Initially making clothing to suit her fashion sense, Emily started focusing on function in making attire for competitive horse shows. As a teenager she brought both angles together, tailoring her own clothing and making her own prom dress from an original design.
In college she began her journey in leather by exploring the world of traditional handmade journals, inspired by a trip to Italy. After a few years of making journals as a cottage industry, Emily incorporated Nuance Journals and went all in on her new business.
Since 2010 she has had her wares for sale in boutiques such as Papier & Plume (French Quarter) and Janoff (NYC). In the same year she began regularly appearing as a vendor at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Frenchmen Street Art Market.
In 2014 she expanded her product line to include bags and clothing and began traveling to festivals throughout the United States.
Currently, Emily is focused on expanding the fashion collection. Some of her new designs explore the possibilities of high fashion with rugged functionality.
In the near future she plans to collaborate with other brands and artists.
